To piggy back on one of the greats, George Carlin. He said we are owned by the corporations, we are owned by the politicians (who are owned by the corporations). So, slavery was never truly abolished, but was altered. We are enslaved by “the grind”. We have to work to live, to do the basic needs that encapsulate our existence. A generation before mine lived to work, they were called to a purpose, and they failed at being human. However, it changed to work to live. 40 hours a week. Most of us work between forty-five to sixty hours a week. To sustain an existence that seems correct in the public eye. One that is of value, of importance. When most of our jobs are not an important part of society. We just feeding the kitty. They tell us we are making a difference. So, we work “eight” hours a day. In a twenty-four period, that means, we are supposed to work eight hours and sleep eight hours. Leaving eight hours to be who you are as a person. How the fuck are you supposed to do that? You have to change your oil, you have to shop for groceries, you have to raise your children, and you have to be happy. The definition of slavery has changed. The definition of what is right and just in the world has shifted. We need to wake up and smell the ether, or the chloroform. We have let them guide us into mundane existence. We need to start to value the life outside of “The Grind”. We are different people for the eight hours that we are working, we are different for the eight hours that we are doing our needs, and we are different people when we sleep for the eight hours. We lose ourselves in the minutiae of life. The mundane. There has to be another way. There has to be something worth it. However, that’s how they get us. That’s why the current people in power can get away with what they are doing. We are so oblivious to what actually matters that we focus on the bullshit that’s annoying. Fuck, we could be great, but we sit here and type our frustrations. We sit here and let the billionaires tell us what is best. We could be better, we should be better, and we have to be better. We are all one in this country, and we all need to start acting like it. Boo the men, and yes that’s okay to say since there is an executive order saying there is only two genders, that keep taking our rights. Let’s go dump some tea in the Boston Harbor! Let’s be the great nation that got founded on being rebels. Maybe, just maybe, we can change the world.
